This week we caught up with Doug Martin.
“Don’t turn the TV on! If it goes on work suffers.“
Q: What are your roles & responsibilities:
A: As an account manager I wear many hats. Project management of client accounts (mainly for Mars Wrigley) which includes admin duties like financial management, work back schedules and budgeting.
There is also the client management side and internal creative management. I really enjoy seeing programs through to execution. After execution, I’m involved with wrapping up the project which includes building the case study and sharing best practices with the team.
Q: How Long with Public Label:
A: I’ve been with the agency for just over 2 years now.
Q: Give us a one-line bio of yourself.
A: Strategically focused, foster good relationship with clients and then as the puck drops or the ball tips off I watch as much sports as possible.
Q: What’s your work situation like at the moment?
A: Working from home (obviously). Apartment downtown and I post up at my kitchen island most days rather than my desk because of the natural light. Taking in the nice views of King Street!
Q: What is your best work from home habit you’ve learned? Any tips/tricks for the future of working from home?
A: Try to keep a normal work schedule as much as possible. For example, don’t wake up at 8:59am and also don’t get off email at 11:01pm. Set parameters. Keep on a routine. Make a nice lunch, give yourself a break.
Don’t turn the TV on! If it goes on work suffers.
Q: What have you missed most/least about not being in the office?
A: Miss being able to see friends/colleagues at the office. The water cooler talk about the previous night’s game, the great TV show and how Kawhi trade was the worst move the Raptors ever made.
I definitely don’t miss the commute!
Q: What are you reading/watching/listening to right now?
A: Reading Underworld by Don DeLillo. Watching lots of sports and re-watching The Mandalorian before season 2 comes out. Listening to some sports and political podcasts. First Take, Undisputed, and now Lincoln Project. Hardcore History whenever a new ones come out.
Q: If you could be anyone for a week, who would it be?
A: Ceasar (but not on the Ides of March). Ancient Rome would be pretty cool and then if you are going back in time you should be on the top.
Q: What is one fun fact about yourself?
A: I’m not fun…although I once convinced my co-workers that I was working as the green knight at Medieval Times. Good times.
Q: Advice you’d give yourself six months from now.
A: Keep being positive – 2021 is a big year for you!
